Moving a hot tub requires careful planning and preparation. Before you begin, make sure that the new location is suitable, with a level ground and access to a compatible electrical outlet. You will also need at least three people to help lift, balance, and maneuver the hot tub.
Here are the steps for moving a hot tub:
- Disconnect and drain the hot tub. Turn off the power and remove the power cord, if possible. Drain the water through the drainage valve or use a submersible pump to remove the water. Remove the hot tub cover and set it aside or pack it in the moving truck.
- Lift the hot tub onto a furniture dolly. Have two people grab opposite corners on the same side of the hot tub and lift it enough to slide a 4×4 piece of lumber underneath. Repeat the process on the other side to prop the hot tub up completely off the ground. Then slide the furniture dolly under the hot tub and remove the 4×4 boards.
- Load the hot tub onto the moving truck. One person should pull the dolly up the furniture loading ramp, while a second person pushes the hot tub from below. A third person should stand on the side of the ramp to help balance the hot tub. If you have a fourth person, they should take the other side of the ramp. Cover the hot tub with moving blankets and secure it with tie-down straps.
- Unload and set up in the new location. Remove the hot tub from the moving truck and place it in the new location. Make sure that you have enough space to remove the hot tub without running into any obstacles. Then slide the 4×4 boards back underneath the hot tub and remove the dolly. Remove each 4×4 board one at a time, so that the hot tub is sitting on the ground. Reconnect the power cord and refill the hot tub with water.
- Perform final checks. After the hot tub is set up in the new location, check for any leaks or damage. Make sure that all the plumbing connections are secure and that the hot tub is level. If everything looks good, turn on the power and start using the hot tub as usual.
